Our recent Wine Show results prompted me to put together this short post about the GSM and Viognier.
The Rocky Ox GSM
In McLaren Vale Class 22 – Grenache predominant Blends, the 2015 Rusty Mutt rocky ox GSM was awarded a Silver medal. A score of 91 points put it in the top 10 wines in that class. The results on the GSM have been quite consistent this year. Silver at the Melbourne International Wine Challenge and Bronze in Royal Adelaide.
The Catnip Viognier
The 2016 Catnip Viognier is also a star. Although the class (Viognier and Rhone style blends) is quite small, it’s 92 point Silver was the highest score in the class. In fact, each vintage of Viognier I have produced has been awarded a Silver medal at McLaren Vale! The Silver result in Adelaide, in my mind confirms this style is really working and the 2016 vintage is one of our best produced. There were eleven wines in the Viognier Class in Adelaide. The top wine in the class was the Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier. The second wine was the 2016 Rusty Mutt Catnip Viognier!
The Hobart Wine Show is coming up shortly so I’ll let you know how we go once the results are in.
If you want some Viognier, don’t wait too long – go to our online store. I’ve had to buy some wine back from my Chinese buyer Peter before he ships it so I have some stock for summer!
