Bottle of Gold Medal Rusty Mutt Viognier

2017 Rusty Mutt Catnip Viognier

$23.00 $19.00
Viognier is such a misunderstood variety. Here in Australia, we can produce a highly aromatic, fresh, fruity white wine from Viognier with a wonderful mouthfeel. This lends itself to a very wide range of foods. Many Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai and Korean dishes work well with the texture and flavours produced by this terrific variety. Youthful red and purple colours in the glass hint at the bright fruit to come. The aroma shows ripe cherry and strawberry with a savoury/meaty note much like a seared rare steak. Some herbs and spice and fresh mint lightly season this complex wine. The palate feels fine, light and fresh with clean flavours and tight, succinct acidity bringing it to a savoury close. 2011 Rusty Mutt Original Shiraz

James Halliday hit the nail on the head. This Shiraz belies the common beliefs about the 2011 vintage. This wine has wonderful aromatics, typical of the vintage, however, the wine itself is intense and well structured. The fruit is bright and powerful, and the palate is well structured and full of flavour. I believe this wine will outlive most vintages either side of this most terrific 2011.
