2014 Rusty Mutt Shiraz

McLaren Vale 100%

Shiraz 100%

Each grape growing region around Australia has a few varieties that grow amazingly well and become icons of the region. Shiraz is the variety that best shows off McLaren Vale. The very old geology of the region, the diversity in its sub regions and the climate, with its proximity to the ocean all have positive effects on this very expressive variety.

Using my knowledge of McLaren Vale and the types of wine each sub-region can produce, I have tailored this wine towards the style that I like to drink (well why wouldn't I!). Gentle winemaking techniques of hand plunged ferments and basket pressing help produce a smooth aromatic Shiraz of medium weight with lots of complexity and elegance. Even though it drinks very well right now, give it a few years and you will be greatly rewarded!

Blood red with great depth and a hint of purple. The aroma begins on a savoury cardamon and aniseed note with creamy oak and a hint of vanilla popping up with time in the glass. Strong blackberry and olive aromas begin on the nose then follow through into the mouth. The palate is structural and firm yet fine and smooth with plenty of flavour and warmth.
